1287. Roll Out the Barrel

This is the final painting of six cactus paintings for a home in Scottsdale, AZ.  These are Barrel Cacti, which are either small or quite large.  I REALLY got carried away with the prickles.

1286. Purple Prickly Pear

I find the color purple to be "difficult" along with its compliment yellow.  It can be warm or cool.  This cactus has both.  I love that the buds look like little toes.  HA!

1283. Desert Beauty

This is the second of six paintings commissioned for a family for their Scottsdale home.  It's one of my favorites.

912 Happy Birthday, Martha

I have met so many wonderful people through my art journey, one of them being Martha.  For her birthday, she buys a present for herself--a painting of mine, and I couldn't feel more honored.    This year she specifically requested the oak leaf vase made by Milwaukee artist Jean Wells Smaglik (https://www.jeansclaystudio.com/) filled with flowers other than sunflowers, which she already has.  I was happy to oblige.  When she sends a compliment on my work, my day is complete!

Happy, happy birthday, Martha.

859 Patton

One of the many things I love about being an artist is that I have so many opportunities for learning, not just about painting and art, but about everyday life, nature, history, etc.  For instance, this dog's name was Patton, and since my history knowledge is a little rusty, I thought I would try to learn a little about the World War II General George Patton.  I won't go into anything that I learned about General Patton, other than that he had a white bull terrier named Willie.

This portrait of Patton was commissioned by friends of two fire fighters who loved this dog so much, and initially had hoped Patton would be ferocious.  Instead, Patton was a sweetheart who was a friendly, gentle soul who loved to ride on their boat.  I am pleased to say that these folks named their dog, Patton, and Patton was female.

848 Teddy, #1 Packer Fan

This is Teddy, a much loved Teddy Bear from the same breeder as my Oliver and several other pooches in my community.  Teddy loves the Packers, and he even has his own Facebook Page!

839 Annabelle

Annabelle is a Springer Spaniel whose breeder gave her up to the Indiana Humane Society because she had an eye infection.  She was then sent to the Wisconsin Humane Society where they were better equipped to treat her disease, but unfortunately, her eye could not be saved.  Her new family fell in love with her at first site, and adopted her immediately.

When I arrived at Annabelle's home, she was so happy to meet me and couldn't get enough of my attention.  I loved being loved!  We played indoors and outside.  It was all good until I got my camera out, when Annabelle literally shunned me from then on.  She wouldn't look at me or come near me but I still managed to get a couple of nice shots of her including this one.  Her favorite spot in the yard is under a bush near the house, so this portrait setting is meaningful.  I visited her today to check for color accuracy and received a very warm welcome.    Isn't she beautiful?

799 Minnie

"Minnie" was a commissioned gift for a special couple's wedding gift.  I thought it was a really creative gift, much better than a sugar bowl.

790 Mazie

Mazie is one of several "Teddy Bears" in our neighborhood, all from the same breeder, including my own pooch, Oliver,  and Rodeo (Oliver's half brother), Chester, Henry and Mazie.  I have painted all of them except Henry and you can see them all somewhere in my daily paintings.  Teddy Bears are great dogs, and are a mix of toy poodle, bichon and shi tzu.  I happen to have a naughty barker, but we still love him.

It's amazing to me how devoted our pets are to us, and we to them.  They comfort us when we need it, and seem to know when we need it most.  I often think that if all the children of the world received as much love and attention as our pets, the world would be a much better place.  Do you agree?

753 Teddy

This is my neighbor dog, Teddy, and a commissioned painting for a Christmas gift.  Teddy is camera shy, so this photo took some effort on Teddy's owner's part.  I couldn't have asked for a better photo to work from.

549 Figaro

Figaro is a very sweet dog, a friend of my pooch's, Oliver.  Figaro's owner is a relatively new friend of mine---and such a delight.  This painting may need a little tweaking as Figaro is mostly black and the shine on his beautiful coat is difficult to determine from my photos.  I have spent a lot of time with him---he is a Personality Plus little guy,  and of course Oliver always knows when I have visited him.  I love this pose with the ears in different positions, one up and one down---a classic Figaro!

520 Saki

This is Saki, a lucky little pooch.  Her "grandmother" commissioned this painting of puppy Saki for her son and his family.  It will be given to them tomorrow, Saturday and I hope they will like it.
Merry Christmas!
