715 Welcome to the Sunset Trail

This striking maple tree is located at the base of the Sunset Trail of Peninsula State Park.  It was magnificent to look at last weekend, especially on a blue sky Sunday.

713 Somewhere in Door County

We spent the weekend in Door County, where the tourist season is wrapping up.  Many of the stores, restaurants and galleries will be closed by November 1.  The Fall colors were beautiful, even on the grey Friday, and the cold, rainy blustery Saturday.  Sunday was beautiful with blue skies, a perfect day for a walk on the Sunset Trail at the Peninsula State Park.  I took many photos from the car while in motion, otherwise we would have worn out the brakes.

710 Stealing the Show

Anyone who lives in my neighborhood knows EXACTLY where this scene is.  I see it every day and approach it head on with this magnificent Ginkgo tree, a real beauty to behold.  The other trees are in full Fall color now, and are so beautiful, but competing with the Ginkgo.

517 Shapely 2

This is the second time I have painted this scene.  A friend really liked it and wanted it for a trio of autumn paintings, but it was sold.  I love the shape of this tree, as it almost looks like a woman's "shapely" figure.  This photo shows the painting framed with Franken Frames's floater frame.  I really like these frames because none of the image is lost as it would be with a conventional frame.

490 Big Bay Landscape

One of my favorite places to get away is Big Bay Park which overlooks Lake Michigan in my community.  At this time of year, the maples are so vibrant along the way leading to the path that takes you to the lake.  This Fall I've stopped my car many times to take pictures of the trees in all their glory and brilliance,  and couldn't resist the impulse to paint them.  I squirted out the Indian Yellow and Nickel Azo Yellow for this one.

472 Symbols of Strength

The oak leaf is a symbol of strength.  It makes sense, doesn't it?--"The Mighty Oak Tree."I love the graceful shapes of the leaves and have pressed oaks and other leaves between the pages of many books throughout the years.  I am now trying to preserve colorful autumn leaves with a glycerin formula, hoping for success.

467 Lanterns in a Cobalt Pitcher

I was a little leery of painting the Chinese Lanterns so small because I didn't want to get "fussy," but I am very happy with them.  This pitcher was given to me by my dear friend, Sharon, who lives in Maine.  I miss seeing her and talking to her on regular basis.  Coincidentally, her birthday is October 2, so this was painted with loving thoughts of her and all the fun we had as neighbors.

465 Dangling

These little Chinese Lanterns fascinate me.  They "ripen" from the ground up, so that the bottom lanterns are orange and those above eventually follow.  I love the various colors on each individual stem---orange, gold, green.  I hope you aren't getting sick of seeing them.  There is still much for me to learn about painting them.  The blue and white bowl will return soon, as well as a few other complimentary items.
