1301. Attraction

Nasturtiums are such a happy flower, popping out from a sea of green.  They are completely edible, too, Despite the end of most of my rooftop garden, the nasturtiums are still going strong.

BUT Did you know that they attract insects?  Yes, they attract aphids and are often called a "trap crop," so for this and other reasons, they should not be planted around cucumbers and squash (they will compete for vine space), potatoes, rosemary (opposite water needs), fennel, broccoli.  Apparently they should be planted near tomatoes, beans and radishes and I am assuming because the aphids will be "trapped" by the nasturtiums and avoid the others.

1300. October

I've been revisiting some previously painted artwork and using critical eyes to improve them. After trying numerous sky colors, I am finally happy. I'm also proud to report that this is my 1300th published painting since I began my painting experience. Painting is my happy, safe place and I'm grateful to have the time and means to do what I love.
