 I received a raving response to this painting and I'm thrilled.  I don't normally paint with these colors much, but hey, winter has been going on far too long.  It may be on its way to a permanent home soon, so fingers crossed.

1183. Koi Pond

 

This painting took so many detours and wrong turns, but finally came into its own.  At 36x 36",  it was quite a challenge to paint.  I'm very happy with it.  It makes me feel like I'm near water, which I love.

Did you know that Koi fish are a symbol of luck, prosperity and good fortune, also of perseverance in the face of diversity.

1019 New Beginning

Every artist has her challenges.  Mine is abstraction.  I am fascinated with the genre, and certainly would love to be proficient at it, but it is difficult for me to paint what I don't see.  In this case, the request was for an abstract painting that employed certain colors, which are somewhat foreign to me because they are soft, and I normally paint with colors with more zest.  It took me an unbelievable amount of time and paint to get the dusty rose color right.  I am happy that the recipient is happy with the painting.  I am happy to entertain other commissions!

Open Sesame

This painting has been in the making for quite some time.  I selected the keys, many of which were antique monastery keys, and enjoyed arranging them carefully so as not to look contrived, yet still balanced enough for a good composition.  I'm crazy about painting old things with texture/rust/patina, as well as collections of items, so this was really fun for me. The hardest part of this painting was the background, which I know sounds silly, followed by coming up with a title.  In the process, I found a quote by Pablo Picasso, that I like:   "Action is the foundational key to success"  ---which applies to just about everything, including painting, doesn't it?
