12664. Dreaming in Color

I absolutely loved painting this.  A happy accident was that I grounded the canvas with  the pinks and reds left over on my palette and when I finished painting the image, I decided to keep it, definitely a practice I will continue.  This painting is for sale, unframed, but shown here to give an idea of how it would look framed. Gratitude to LaTerre Market for use of their photo for inspiration.

1263. On a Whim

As you can see, the bottom painting has had a major overhaul.  I kept looking at it and wishing I were happy with it, but in the end I was not.  I'm much happier with this version.

Of all the colors on my palette, yellow gives me the biggest headache.  It is such a happy color and I love painting yellow sunflowers, but I find it very difficult to get the correct color in photographs.  In this photo, the yellow in the photo is brighter than on the canvas.  This painting was fun to paint, but a little challenging for the largest flower.

Thanks to LaTerre Market, Mequon, WI for permission to use their image for inspiration.

This painting is for sale at the link below.

1262. Warm and Cozy

It is a whopping10 degrees here in Chicago, which feels like -2 degrees with the wind chill.  Why I thought to paint geraniums is beyond me--wishful thinking perhaps.  I used only palette knives and my favorite silicone color shaper, no brushes.

1261. Cause For Celebration

In our troubled times, we must find things, even the least likely of occurrences to celebrate.  At the time of this writing, he Los Angeles fires are running rampant, and so many people have lost everything.  Today I saw a report of a fire fighter who lost his home and everything in it.  As he was being interviewed, a few people were sifting through the rubble and ashes to find his wedding ring.  The fire fighter pointed out the ashes and a few wires of his family's baby grand piano.  Lo and behold, in a scene that absolutely did not look contrived, the wedding ring was found!  The excitement amidst the grief was a celebration in itself, and I found it very heartwarming.

1260. A Lasting Affection

Did you know that roses have meaning depending on their color?  Peach roses are symbolic of sweetness, sincerity, and genuineness, among many others.  They seem to be very popular now for weddings to symbolize innocence and a lasting friendship and affection.

Yellow roses symbolize friendship and remembrance.  Red roses convey passion and romance while white stands for purity and innocence.

What's your favorite ?
