1020 Lucky Find (a study)

While in Florida I found this unusual mid-century gilded tea pot at an antique store we discovered last year.  I fell in love with it immediately, and the best part about it was the price-tag--$13.00.  Apparently it has a very small chip in a very discreet place, which I didn't even notice and didn't care about.  It was a challenge to paint it with the reflections changing too often.  I assume you know I will be incorporating this into future paintings.

1019 New Beginning

Every artist has her challenges.  Mine is abstraction.  I am fascinated with the genre, and certainly would love to be proficient at it, but it is difficult for me to paint what I don't see.  In this case, the request was for an abstract painting that employed certain colors, which are somewhat foreign to me because they are soft, and I normally paint with colors with more zest.  It took me an unbelievable amount of time and paint to get the dusty rose color right.  I am happy that the recipient is happy with the painting.  I am happy to entertain other commissions!

1018 Pretty in Pink

I had a lot of pink piles of paint on my palette that were left over from another painting.  My husband bought the pink alstroemerias for me and I found the vase in the house we rented, so I figured I would use up the paint.  It is painted on bristol paper, which is a little unusual for me, but I didn't have a canvas or board.  I'm fairy happy with how the flowers turned out, but the background needs more paint.  The cup is new and you will see it again, I'm sure.

1017 Triplets

I am preparing for Edgewood Orchard Galleries' show and exhibit, "Taking Flight"  this summer.  The nest paintings are a fun and relaxing activity.

1016 Unexpected Visitor

The birds in Florida are so beautiful, some fanciful and some elegant.  The little sandpipers at the beach are so much fun to watch as they approach the water, then run back as the waves roll toward them.

The other day we were sitting on a bench near the bay, and this beautiful Blue Heron flew in near us and perched him/herself near us, seemingly uncaring that we were photographing him/her.  I loved the ripple of the water  and the foliage in the background.

1015 Only Time Will Tell

I am away from home and have had to scrounge for still life props.  Everything in the house we are renting is beach related.  A visit to an antique store proved to be very worthwhile.  Stay tuned.

1014 Love and Affection

I love tulips--they remind me of Spring no matter when they bloom in my home.  It feels like Spring is very far off since Chicago has been buried in snow and the groundhog told me so.

In researching tulips for inspiration, I learned much about this lovely flower.  These orange flowers have elaborate meanings: joy, enthusiasm, longing for rays of sunshine, happiness and excitement.  Also, understanding, mutual connection and appreciation between two people.

I also learned that tulips are edible, and I'm quite surprised at that.
