 Pink and red and orange flowers can cure just about anything, in my opinion.  These are zinnias.

1075 In love With Zinnias

 While all the vegetable plants on the roof are withering, the zinnias are brilliant and plentiful.  The pink ones are called Carmine and they are exquisite.  Zinnias love the conditions on the roof and it's really fun to wander among them and their guests, the bees, butterflies, and other polinators.

804 Summer, Finally!

I really enjoyed painting this after a rocky start.  It's been a few months since I painted with the oil paints and a subject so unprecise.  I was inspired to paint by so many beautiful works of art that were part of the Cedarburg Cultural Center's Plein Air show.  I did not participate in the plein air painting (next year!), but enjoyed helping to hang the paintings with artist Chuck Eaton.  I couldn't wait to get home to paint!

168 Coming to an End

The air is cool and crisp, and Fall is definitely here.  The trees are beginning to turn and my gardens are looking a little tired.  I hate to see summer end.   These are my zinnias and the purple flowers are called black and blue salvia.  Here in Milwaukee, we have a large population of sphinx moths, however most people are calling them hummingbird moths because they hover the way  hummingbirds do and enjoy many of the same flowers.  They particularly like my black and blue salvia.  Apparently they are common in our area, but no one remembers ever seeing them before.  They are really fun to watch, and certainly a challenge to photograph.
