An odd pairing, I know.

219 Sunbathing
Many years ago, my husband I visited San Francisco and at the time, everyone was so excited and baffled by the influx of sea lions who beached themselves at Pier 39 of Fisherman's Wharf. We visited there again two years ago, and the sea lions are still there, basking in the sun, and now protected. It's a very touristy attraction, but so much fun to observe these funny animals.

Quiet Observers
In October, I spent several days plein air painting with a group at The Beltane Ranch in California. On the first day, I painted figs growing on a tree, something I had never seen before. I stepped back to observe my painting from a distance, and suddenly realized these three Clydesdale horses had come to the trough and were watching me. For such large animals, they move very quietly. It was a perfect day, one of many.

Remember?
Here in Milwaukee, pansies are one of the first flowers to be planted in the Spring. Our weather has been too cold and miserable to plant anything, but a visit to the local garden center made me feel hopeful. With their sweet resemblance to the human face, pansies represent "thoughts" or contemplation. Purple pansies are for memories, yellow for loving thoughts.
